The day started out interesting for me, and then got more interesting… When I got into the car on the way to the church, I couldn’t stop coughing, and almost gagging. It was sudden, so I say spiritual warfare. Well, this got better by the time the morning prayer time was over. Then after warming up the choir, one of our pastors informed me that EasyWorship was refusing to function. Also, our projectors were flicking on and off ever so often! We changed things by having the choir special after announcements so that we could get lyric sheets out to the congregation (which the choir uses so we got copies made just before service started!)
It was actually refreshing to change things up a little, even if it was done spur of the moment!
After early service ended, our PowerPoint person transferred the second service lyrics directly into Powerpoint, and another tech got the ladder and cleaned the filters on the projectors. All problems found a solution. After service, EasyWorship was fixed as well after our Powerpoint person got online to search for a solution.
But if you know of alternatives to EasyWorship (Windows-based, even though I use a Mac, they use Windows), COMMENT! I think it’s time to look somewhere else…
Alastair and his family are currently on vacation in our area, so they visited during second service. He will probably have a photo or two on his blog when he returns.

Amanda, check out http://www.opensong.org/ This is a great little program for presentations, lead sheets and lyric sheets. It also has integrated bible modules availible. We’ve been using it for a couple years and will not even think about anything else.
Oh, yeah, and it’s open source. Yanno, free!
Mike
Well that link tag didn’t work. Try this: http://www.opensong.org/
It’s cool how All Who are Thirsty can fit in an setting. Great song.
The service was great on Sunday. Any technical difficulties were not obvious to congregation – at least in second service!
What version of EasyWorship do you use there? You should speak to their support people, a newer version might fix things for you.
@Mike: Thanks for the link! I’ve forwarded it to our Powerpoint tech to check out!
@Alastair: Yes, I think all technical stuff was fine at 2nd service. It wasn’t as fancy using Powerpoint for lyrics vs. EasyWorship, but having the lyrics up is more important than cool animations! At early service it wasn’t bad either. Good thing the choir uses lyric sheets–we were able to make quick copies extra for the congregation to use so they could still be engaged.
As for the EasyWorship version… I know they use a version that came out in 2006. Apparently they can’t go any higher because of the laptop being used, but I was informed today that they are going to try to budget something in… who knows! They have an even older version on the laptop that worked Sunday, but wasn’t up-to-date with all the new songs.
Glad you and your family could come visit!
I love those days. We just had a massive day in our church just 3 weeks ago and easy worship “crapped” out like that. But we fixed it….we got rid of easy worship and got a imac and propresenter. easy worship doesn’t screw anymore of our services up. haha
Love the improvising! God does cool things in those moments we are uncomfortable.
We’ve been using EasyWorship for about 4 years now. The thing that I found made the biggest difference is when we finally bit the bullet and completely upgraded the PC that we were using. (I’m a mac fan/user, too, so I hate the PC mentality as it is…) When we spent about $800 and bought a Dell that doubled all of the suggested operating specs on EW, we’ve never had another iota of trouble. We are VERYYY media-heavy as well, with most services having 2-3 videos, audio tracks, powerpoint, and use of the built-in songs. I think it might be the workstation. As media coordinator, it was a huge deal to me to know that the PC that was being used wasn’t going to crap out on one of my volunteers in the middle of the service!
