(This post is apart of Sunday Setlists.)
By the way, this little guy still needs a sponsor!
October already! Wow. Services went well today, though bittersweet after finding out about the passing away of a woman dear to many hearts. She was only in her forties, but struggled much (physically) in her life, and though it is still painful as death is, she is now experiencing true healing in Heaven with the Lord! Praise God! Prayer appreciated for our church and, even more so, for her family!
Early service:
- Choir: My Life Is In You (Daniel Gardner)
- Amazing Grace (John Newton/John Rees/Edwin Excell)
- You Are My All in All (Dennis Jernigan)
- I Stand Amazed (Charles Gabriel)
- Choir: My Help (Cometh from the Lord) (Jackie Farris; arr. by Carol Cymbala/Lari Goss)
- O How He Loves You and Me (Kurt Kaiser)
I didn’t list it, but it was my week to provide music for the offering time at early service (in addition to leading!) I felt like God was calling me to do a song that He led me to write just a few months ago, which also meant I played guitar in worship for the first time ever! It went very well, especially thanks to some superglue on the fingertips of my fretting hand because my callouses have dissipated lately! Even though it was the traditional service, those I talked to enjoyed the guitar as well.
My hope is that the lyrics of the song will stay in the minds of some and that it will be their prayer as much as it already is mine.
Contemporary service:
- Sing Hallelujah (Mark Stokes)
- Beautiful One (Tim Hughes)
- Look My Way (Lenny LeBlanc/Lindell Cooley)
- Rain Down (Martin Smith/Stuart Garrard)
- Nothing Is As Wonderful (Scott Underwood)
Another wonderful service, and one song was cut (but replaced with Sing Hallelujah at both opening and closing time). It went well and there seemed to be more participation from the congregation than there sometimes can be.
I’m continuing to pray these things for our church:
- That we will seek God’s Kingdom and His righteousness first (Matthew 6:33).
- The complete, healthy function of the Body of Christ in each part and with the unity of the Spirit of God (Ephesians 4, Romans 12, Philippians 2:1-18).
- That we will truly exalt the Lord and worship Him freely in Spirit and in truth (John 4:23-24 and 2 Corinthians 3:17).

Yes, Yes! “Sing Hallelujah” is such an awesome song!! I’d love to hear how you did it. We rock it one out. My wife and I have been leading it for years. It’s a favorite of ours. It excites me to see the church doing this song. It’s such a beautiful and rocking song. So cool

This morning we had a great set list. We started with one of our all-time favorites, which is One Way. A lot of the people “pogo” during the chorus. We then sang Blessed be your name, Undo, My One Desire, and ended with Love is Here. Undo and My One Desire were new for us, so we were a bit hesitant, but I think they still sounded pretty good.
Your friend’s family and your church are in my prayers. Have a great week!
Nice, very nice…
It is so hard to lose someone we love, but I appreciate your outlook and understanding that she has lived and now is with Christ. Amazing!
Congrats on leading one of your own songs! I think it is awesome for the local churches to birth their own music. It’s speaks so well to what that community is doing and learning together.
Hey,
Thanks for being in Sunday Setlists – do you have a demo or recording of your song somewhere that it can be shared? You can post it on the Songwriter’s Forum at TheWorshipCommunity.Com as well!

Superglue on the fingertips?! Did it realy help? I’m with Fred, I’d love to hear/see the lyrics of your song.
@Fred: Thanks! Unfortunately the recording of the song I wrote done during the service didn’t turn out.
Next time… and maybe when I’m better at guitar!
@Steve: Yes, the superglue really worked! I couldn’t believe it myself! Also, now my callouses seem to be building up quicker again, not sure if the superglue trick also helps that happen quicker, since I’ve also been playing a lot more lately!
