Sunday Setlist – 08/24/08

This post is apart of the Sunday Setlists blog carnival – click the link to see more worship setlists!

This week we added organ to the usual choir/piano lineup at early service, something we’re going to do every fourth Sunday of the month, so we got kind of “high church-ish” on everyone this morning! :)

Early service:

  • He Is Exalted (Paris)
  • Come, Thou Almighty King (De Giardini/possibly Wesley)
  • All Creatures of Our God and King (Assisi/Draper)
  • Holy, Holy, Holy (Dykes/Heber)
  • O Worship the King (Grant/Haydn; choral arrangement by R. Sterling w/praise chorus by Chris Tomlin)

Contemporary service:

  • Open Up the Gates (Seeley)
  • We Will Worship Him (Brown)
  • Open the Eyes of My Heart (Baloche)
  • I Receive (Buffam)
  • Better Is One Day (Redman)
  • Here I Am to Worship (Hughes)

Today was a moving service for me personally and for others as well, but I still have this growing frustration that some don’t quite understand what worship is about or why we take part in worshiping through music as a congregation. But here’s the big disclaimer: That doesn’t mean this is true–my perception could be totally wrong! I pray that God will open my eyes to the things unseen in that regard, and that I wouldn’t be guided by any feeling or perception that is not of Him, but by trust in God and the desire to do His will alone.

just keeping teaching and guiding your people to worship along with the pastor, and the people will follow. Sometimes, it takes a bit, but you’ve got it. We really can’t know if people worship or not, we just have to lead them in the right way. Keep it up.

  2. Hey Amanda,
I can totally relate to that frustration – what’s wonderful is that YOU CARE about it!

“All Creatures of our God and King” … I love it. One of my fave hyms!

  3. I feel your frustrations, and have the same prayers for myself and my church.

  4. ditto…
but you so have the right attitude, it is all about Him.

Yep…my biggest struggle every Sunday is my own perception. I’m there.

  6. Hey man. I saw your comment posted on Technopastor’s blog. I actually love your blog here. Thanks for the good posts and dialog. Your heart is in the right place and humbles me to want to pray the same. Wow, what if my concept of worshiping Him is way off?!?! That’s scary.

@everyone: Thanks for your comments and empathy! :)

@worshipkitchen: Thank you as well! Just one thing though — I’m a girl worship leader. :D

    Amanda,
I loves me some “He Is Exalted”!

If people aren’t getting it – what do you think we (worship leaders) need to do about that?

  9. Wayne says:

Here is what I believe… if we, as worship leaders, make ourselves as transparent as possible, and if we worship the Lord with all of our heart, with all of our minds, and with all of our strength… then people will see this and will understand what worship is. I find myself wondering the same things at times. But I have found if I take that thought process and put it away, and replace it with just worshiping God in front of our church then He honors that sacrifice and shows up in a MIGHTY WAY! Sometimes the only way you can teach someone something is by showing them how it’s done. And THAT is what I believe worship leaders are called to do. God puts it in OUR hearts, as worship leaders, to worship Him in a way that is pleasing to Him. At that point, we simply have to ’show’ everyone how to do it.

Love your blog! And I invite you to take a look at mine, as well. A lot of us in this network are so like-minded!

    Bless you, sister!

@Wayne: Thank you so much for your comments! I totally agree with this and your comments spurred me on even more this past Sunday as I led in worship. BTW, I’ve checked out your blog a few times before, thought I had subscribed but found I hadn’t — so now I’ve subscribed! :)

I love that Sunday Setlists is helping us to spur one another on! Thank you all for your comments. :)

@Billy: To your question, I agree with what Wayne said above, let us be examples of true worshipers of the Lord as we lead! :)
