Sunday Setlist – 08/17/08

Joining the Sunday Setlist blog carnival for the second week in a row. Here’s what we did at our church today.

Early service:

  • Firm Foundation (Harvill/Gordon)
  • The Solid Rock (Mote/Bradbury)
  • The Church’s One Foundation (Benedict/Stone)
  • Be Unto Your Name (Sadler/DeShazo)
  • Doxology (Ken/Bourgeois)
  • Rise Up, O Church (Men) of God (Merrill/Walter)

Contemporary service:

  • I Am Free (Egan)
  • Your Grace Is Enough (Maher)
  • Hallelujah (Your Love Is Amazing) (Brown/Doerksen)
  • Let It Rise (Davis)
  • Mighty To Save (Hillsong)
  • Only Hope – solo by one of our youth (Switchfoot)
  • In Christ Alone (Getty/Townend)

Today was a great day of worshiping God! (Cliche sounding, but true!) I love when God does something different than we might expect, having a “set” order of service and all. Of course, He can change that!

God used today to do just that in even a seemingly small way. I felt led to speak during the Response time after the day’s message at our early service (a time when I normally wouldn’t). We couldn’t just sing Rise Up, O Church (Men) of God with the current transitions and struggles our church is facing without truly focusing on exactly what we are singing, and God used this coupled with a message about the Church to speak that to us today.

In sum, I felt God was asking us to grow in determination that we will intentionally rise up as a church , despite the challenges we’ve faced and continue to face. We have to be determined to rise up as the Body of Christ, filled with the power and strength that can only come from God!

My prayer is that all the things God was speaking to us as a church was truly heard in all our hearts today.

It’s really not a cliche, even though we say it a lot. This morning, as we were about halfway through our set, I looked up at the congregation and just thought, “Man it’s great to be worshipping God this morning.” Nice set here. I love that song “Your Love Is Amazing” but have never done it in church before.

    @Rick: I totally appreciate your comment re:not cliche. :)

I enjoy worshiping with “Your Love Is Amazing” — I’ve heard it twice in a “concert/worship” time elsewhere, & it seemed to work well at our church today. They may have done it here in the past too, but I’m not sure. Glad our contemporary service’s worship leader picked it!

“Today was a great day of worshiping God!”

I felt the same way today.

  4. Thanks for including Let It Rise in your line up!!! Check out Worshipsong.com for more songs.

  5. I’m not sure of the transitions you’re going through, but I’ve been through many transitions in my churches and I know it can be challenging. Great songs there, and it looks like you have more time than many of us do when it comes to worship. congrats!

It looks like your early service is a bit more traditional. We do a similar thing having two musically different gatherings. Is everything else the same for your gatherings?

  7. Paul J. says:

Interesting two sets…are you the leader for both? How do you handle such stylistic changes in the same morning?

  8. A. says:

@Paul and sicstrings: Yes, we have a traditional early service (w/choir, piano, worship leader), and then a contemporary service (worship team/band instrumentation with guitars, drums, a few singers, etc.) Besides the music and instrumentation, everything else is the same service-wise (message, layout of service…)

I only lead the early service as the main WL, though I am on the worship team as well.

    Thanks for your comments! :)

keep being obedient to God’s voice. It’s exciting when he leads us to do unplanned things in a service. Great songs.
