Amazing Grace is a hymn with at least seven verses (or more?) One verse that is now common in our hymnals, was first found in Harriet Beecher Stowe’s book Uncle Tom’s Cabin:
When we’ve been there ten thousand years,
Bright shining as the sun,
We’ve no less days to sing God’s praise
Than when we’ve first begun.
A few others aren’t in our church’s particular hymnal, such as a favorite verse of mine:
The earth shall soon dissolve like snow,
The sun forbear to shine;
But God, who call’d me here below,
Will be forever mine.
I’m debating on this lately, I’d love to do all the verses!
So… why not share which verses you sing most often in services?

Here is the Amazing Grace that we always sing.
Amazing grace how sweet the sound
That saved a wretch like me!
I once was lost but now am found,
Was blind but now I see.
Twas grace that taught my heart to fear,
And grace my fears relieved;
How precious did that grace appear
The hour I first believed!
Thru many dangers, toils and snares
I have already come;
Tis grace hath brought me safe thus far,
and grace will lead me home.
When we’ve been there ten thousand years,
Bright shining as the sun,
We’ve no less days to sing God’s praise
Than when we’d first begun.
We used to sing the same as Vicki mentioned above, but we’ve begun doing Christ Tomlin’s arrangement and he does two verses we had never done before. One is the one you mentioned, “The earth shall soon dissolve like snow…”
The other is,
The Lord has promised good to me
His Word my hope secures
He will my shield and portion be
As long as life endures
“The Lord has promised good to me
His Word my hope secures
He will my shield and portion be
As long as life endures”
- wow! i like this one. can i repost this in my blog? thanks!:-)
